With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I had just returned from touring Scandinavia and was home in St. John's to get ready for showcasing my new audio-visual project, DON'T LET ME FALL TOO FAR at East Coast Music Week. Within a couple of days, all of my international tours were cancelled and the local events soon followed. Everything moved so fast. I have yet to leave the island to tour again but sharing my music digitally has really taken over.

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

It definitely has changed the way I share my music. I've forced myself to dig deeper - to find new and meaningful ways to create and share with online audiences. I've been thinking outside the box A LOT as I reinvent my music career to better embrace the digital world. As artists, we can't avoid this transition that's happening. I've been fortunate to find performing opportunities of my keynote concert, INSPIRATION SOUP at digital arts festivals. This hybrid concert experience of performing live music to film as I uplift and empower people through inspirational speaking has been a real gift. Although it felt like my creativity would never come back, that changed the moment I did an artist residency through the Unscripted Twillingate Digital Arts Festival this past summer. I'll be releasing new audio-visual work inspired by the Twillingate region in 2022. This time away from touring has also given me the opportunity to work on my music production skills as I've recorded flute for a number of other artists.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

New-found free time? What's that?!!! As a working artist, I've never worked harder! With all the uncertainty that's happening in our careers right now, my mental health has been a big priority. I do lots of meditation and yoga, read affirmations daily, write in my journal, create vision boards, eat a plant-based diet and get out into nature as much as I can.

As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?

I don't have any tours booked yet although I'm dreaming of getting back out on the road in such a HUGE way! Touring fuels so much of my creativity. I'm taking this time to strengthen my music production and business skills as I build my career in ways I haven't been able to while touring.

Favourite Starlite Room Moment?

I remember hanging out at the Starlite on a night off from touring across Canada in 2006. Can't remember the band that played that night but I sure remember that venue! It's fantastic!

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

Never give up. Sometimes when we're closest to achieving something, it feels like we're nowhere close to getting there. Listen to your gut. It will always steer you in the right direction.
