HAPPY CANADA DAY!

This Canada Day, Canadian legends Gord Sinclair & Rob Baker of The Tragically Hip thought they would remind live music supporters of what we are working towards. Remind Canadians that music is power, that music creates unity and that Canadian culture is created in Canadian independent venues.

The Tragically Hip played small venues across Ontario until that fateful night when Bruce Dickinson from MCA saw them perform at the independent venue the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Ontario.

"You make your living, plying your trade in the clubs and music venues, and if they start to go under, and it's looking like they're going to, we're all in trouble. There will be no Tragically Hip, there will be no bands."

#SupportCanadianVenues is a collective of independent live music venues, agencies, promoters, production companies, and festivals, working alongside the Canadian Live Music Association and other Canadian industries, businesses and nonprofits that are advocating for emergency support funding and an economic recovery plan in the live music and touring - Heritage Arts & Culture - industry of Canada 🇨🇦

We came together to address concerns that have arisen in the wake of the COVID-19 shutdown. We shut our doors in mid-March, and cannot re-open until large gatherings are once again possible. With little to no revenue coming in over a sustained period, many live music companies will not survive without sector-specific government relief. We are looking to change that.
