With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I released my first EP after the pandemic had begun. Unfortunately, it interfered with my ability to play live at the time. However, because I began to release original music and grow my career during quarantine, I didn't have to make any new adjustments to my music platform. I learned to take everything one day at a time and grow my audience organically within emerging guidelines.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I hoped to play live shows to showcase my latest collection of music. These included me booking gigs around the city and a music festival scheduled for early summer. Sadly, my plans took yet another detour. Nevertheless, I will continue to adjust from home, and hopefully, I will be able to perform live again soon!
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Being constantly at home is both a blessing and a curse for me. My quiet self has found great joy in focusing on my piano practice and songwriting, reading, writing poetry and baking. I had the chance to rediscover hobbies that I did not have time for previously. Recently, for example, I began cooking. And I now look forward to trying different cuisines and cooking with various ingredients. Overall, I love being in my creative space with my family. But on the other hand, it has been increasingly difficult to adapt to the new, constant time at home while maintaining my creativity and excitement. Sometimes I feel trapped in routine, and I yearn for spontaneity.
How are dealing with the Covid fifth wave? Have things locked down again in your region? Have you had to cancel gigs, tours, etc.? Are things reopening & restrictions are lifting in your region? Have you booked any new gigs, tours, etc.? What are your plans for 2022?
In my region, Covid restrictions have once more been implemented, and live music has been put to a halt. After releasing two EPs in December, I was looking forward to premiering the songs in live sets. As I wait on restrictions to life, I have turned my focus to writing more music, which I want to record this year. I am also planning a release early in the year that I cannot wait to share soon!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
To everyone reading from home, stay safe and well. Make time to do what you love. Garner a positive outlook on your time in isolation and learn something new. Pick up a new hobby, and take care of yourself. You should establish a support system for yourself, whether a friend, a loved one, a pet, a book or music. Find what brings you joy and do a little more of it! Turning to music has helped me feel less alone, and I hope my music can allow that for my listeners.
